Lockdown !: State Govt likely to impose curfew again in the name of curfew

Following the curfew, the Nagardevi Bhadrakali temple was found locked

According to government sources, lockdown or tight curfew is the only option if the transition increases in any case.  In view of the extent to which hospitals are emerging in Ahmedabad, a curfew has to be imposed.  Either way, to break the chain of transition, restrictions have to be imposed for as long as fifteen days, and so in the near future, four metros and, if necessary, other cities may be under curfew for several hours during the day and throughout the night.

A situation where there is a shortage of space in the hospital

On Saturday, 1,515 cases were reported in 24 hours, the highest ever in Gujarat.  Similarly, Ahmedabad city has also set a new record of 354 cases in a single day.  Even in Surat and Vadodara, new cases are being registered in three figures every day.  In Ahmedabad city, there is a shortage of space in hospitals.  Currently, the government has imposed a complete curfew here on Saturdays and Sundays, besides Ahmedabad, there is a night curfew in Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot.  Now the government is likely to try to stop the transition by imposing curfews in these four cities even during the day.

Currently, there is a curfew in Ahmedabad till Monday morning and night curfew will be enforced from that day, but a daytime curfew will also be announced in four metros on Monday evening, sources said.

The possibility of such a curfew being announced in 4 cities

Relaxations are available during the day from 6 to 10 in the morning and from 4 to 8 in the evening.

Women can be exempted from curfew for a few hours in the morning.

Businesses can be closed during the day except for necessities like milk, groceries, medicines and vegetables.

Industrial units can get concessions with adherence to the guideline.  All merchant units and shops may be forced to close except for necessities.

The guidelines issued by the central government for unlock make it clear that no state can impose a lockdown on its own.  Therefore, the Gujarat government may discuss with the Center for a lockdown that may be imposed in the name of such a curfew.
